Remark or addition

  • The crimp grip can be divided in closed and open crimp and is one of the best grips for holding onto small handholds when you're face climbing. It's an aggressive and powerful hand position that usually feels secure on thin edges. The main difference between closed and open crimping is the use of your thumb on top of your index finger in closed crimping as opposed to no thumb on open crimping.
  • The power gained in crimping can come at a price since it places the highest force loads on your finger joints and tendons, giving it a high injury potential.
