Remark or addition

Strengthening the muscles of your thumbs can help you improve your pinching power. As indoor climbing involves extensive use of your thumbs it is necessary to have them in good condition. This will certainly help you to climb problems that are build in a roof or overhanging wall as the use of your thumbs will allow you to drop your weight under your hands rather then building up compression between the holds.

  • Wrap a rubber band around your hand, the higher you place the rubber band the harder the exercise will become.
  • Move your thumb away from your fingers as far as you can.
  • Hold this position 30 to 45 seconds and gently release to the starting position.
